My original educational/career goals were to obtain a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and then go to work. I was fortunate enough to be invited to do funded research in engineering analysis, which funded my master’s degree. I then worked for John Deere for two years and subsequently returned to school to work on a Ph.D. After that I worked for General Motors for 5 ½ years on engineering analysis for tracked combat vehicles. My next step was to work for a small software company, Mechanical Dynamics, for nine years. I worked with the Adams multibody dynamics software. After a year doing Nastran consulting at MSC.Software I joined a small software company from South Korea, FunctionBay. I helped them develop their multibody dynamics software business for 3 years before starting my own company, MotionPort, in 2004. We were a distributor of the FunctionBay software and also provided consulting services and training. After 16 years I sold MotionPort to EnginSoft USA in 2020. Engineering has brought me many opportunities. I have participated in many conferences in the USA, Japan, Korea, Germany, France, and Canada. I have been able to train engineers throughout the USA as well as in Spain, India, Israel, and Japan. I have met many intelligent and capable people, and now I am enjoying my work with the wonderful faculty of the engineering department. It is a privilege for me to work with Utah Tech students as they do independent work and prepare to transition to their future careers.
